John Mason was born in New York, Albany. At his birth, his father was not there, he died in Iraq and his mother died giving birth to him. Through the years, this caused John to be quiet and not talk to much people. He had a miserable life in an orphanage with 15 other children, that made fun of his height, being to short. The orphanage keepers were mean, and cheep. Mason was not fed too much for him being a "runt" and it meant he did not need as much food as your average kid.

When he was 18, he grew to be quite tall. He wanted to follow his father's foot steps and became a marine. He was very good with a gun. He moved up through the ranks pretty quickly, and was applauded for his outstanding work. One day, he was sent to the Black Mesa Facility in New Mexico, where he infiltrated some sort of "virus" along with hundreds of other marines. After all of this time, he had to start a new life. He couldn't unsee what he had seen. He was scarred throughout the years since that incident. The war. He went to City 17 to start a knew life. He stayed there for a few days, got to know the officers around the area. And decided to fill out an application to become Civil Protection, so he can once again, defend people.
