TIERS OF VORTIGAUNT SOCIETY

Grand Elder


There may be only one Grand Elder within the confines of certain territories; he is considered the most powerful Vortigaunt in the area, and is seen as a king or chieftain to all Vortigaunts.

Elder


Elders are the pinnacle of Vortigaunt society. There may be up to four at one time, though no more than four. They make up the Council of Five with the Grand Elder.

Unrestricted; 15 AP per day.

Shaman


Shamans are the warrior class of Vortigaunt, specializing in primarily aggressive and offensive Vortessense power.


Danger Level: 6

Offensive Strikes, Offensive Traps; 10 AP per day.

Scribe


Scribes are the scholars and defensive class of Vortigaunt, specializing in defensive Vortessense abilities.


Danger Level: 4

Teacher

Teacher's are able to teach students the basics of the Vortigaunt society.

Student

Student's are the first tier in the vortigaunt society. Every free vortigaunt starts as one. They have no abilities in this tier.

Slave

Slaves are Vortigaunts that have been enslaved by the Combine. They clean up the nexus, keep the plaza clean, etc. If they leave the confines of the plaza, their shackles will explode and ultimately kill them. Their shackles also prevent them from using vortessence. The only way an enslaved vortigaunt can be freed is if the shackles are removed very slowly in around an hour long process. One mistake could kill the engineer removing the shackles and the vortigaunt.
